Surface Finish Types
Polished
A polished marble finish is created by grinding down the surface of the material using fine abrasives until it results in a natural shine. It is layered with an end coating that acts as a protectant and gives off a smooth and “mirror-like” shine.
HonedHoned marble finish is a processing which aims at making the surface homogeneous, without scratches, levelled and smooth: in other words, to restore the surface to its original condition, eliminating the signs caused by wear over time.
Since it is less slick by nature, scratches less easily, and has fewer cracks, honed Marble is typically the best option for bathroom flooring. The polished finish requires less frequent sealing because it is more water and stain-resistant.
Tumbled
Tumbled – A tumbled finish leaves the edges of stone artfully rough and chipped, creating a weathered, aged look. This can hide signs of wear and tear in outdoor and high traffic areas. Tumbling is typically achieved by placing the marble into a rotating drum where it is abraded by rocks to achieve the desired finish. The result is natural, vintage and a little bit rustic.
Brushed
Brushed finish marble features a textured finish that is created by the brushing of the stone with soft wire brushes. This finish has a beautiful antiqued and weathered look that is classic and timeless. The marble brushing process is also referred to as patinato. As a result of this process, the natural texture and pores of the stone on the surface are created.
Sandblasted
The sandblasted finish of marble and natural stone provides a surface with a smooth granular relief. The final result is a finely dotted base with a rough surface that nevertheless maintains uniformity in texture. From a chromatic point of view, it presents a slightly worn color as well as grooves.
